The Ancient Practice of Oil Pulling

Published on:

Oil pulling is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil in the mouth to remove bacteria and promote oral hygiene. It is associated with Ayurveda, the traditional medicine system from India.

With this unique practice, mouth bacteria leading to gum infections, bad breath, and staining of teeth is reduced. Decreasing these strains of bacteria through oil pulling could also help prevent tooth decay and reduce the risk of cavity formation.

Cold Pressed Organic Oils including coconut and sesame oil work well for “pulling” the bacteria and viruses from the oral cavity. Trans fats are absent in cold pressed oils when compared to commercial oils which are extracted from strong petroleum based solvents.

Forest Essentials Cold Pressed Organic Coconut Oil is extracted from the fresh grated white flesh of strictly graded high quality coconuts to procure the richest extract. The creamy flesh of the coconut is separated through a meticulous series of centrifuges at low temperatures. An old fashioned cold press method is then used to distil the oil into traditional wooden Kohlus, without the application of heat so as to retain the oil’s nutrients and its superior quality.

The oil is exceptionally rich with a delicate sweet flavor for both external and internal use.

In oil pulling, a tablespoon full of oil is swished around the mouth in the early morning before breakfast and in empty stomach for about 15-20 minutes. The oil is ‘pulled’ and forced in between all the teeth by swishing it all around the mouth. The oil will then become milky white and thinner.

After the procedure, spit out the oil and wash the mouth thoroughly with clean warm water, and teeth with a tooth brush. It is important to ensure that oil must not be swallowed as it contains bacteria and toxins. It is best practiced in sitting position with chin up.
