Perfumes

A mixture of fragrant essential oils, perfumes have been used since ancient times — in the tenets of Ayurveda — for societal customs and daily rituals. Ancient Ayurvedic texts mention the art of perfume making with the distillation processes of ittar or perfume. The Forest Essentials Perfumes are formulated using this potent steam distillation technique which draws intense fragrances from pure essential oils and floral waters of fragrant flowers and is prepared with a base of Pure Grain Alcohol or Microcrystalline Wax and Beeswax.

Our Perfumes are available in two versions:

  • Intense Perfumed Body Mists: Sunehre Din, translating to Radiant Days, is recommended as a daytime perfume. It gives a long-lasting aroma with a fresh, dazzling effect on the senses. It begins with a top note of Rose Absolute, which brings an appealing character to the fragrance. The blend of Kashmiri Saffron and Marigold adds a sweet mid-note while the smoky whiff of Maulshree brings a wood base note, creating a delicate freshness for the senses. Chandani Raatein, translating to Moonlit Nights, is recommended as an after-dark perfume. It gives a sensual aroma and begins with a top note of Ruh Motia fused with fresh notes of Jasmine. Enveloped with heart notes of Golden Champa and Raat ki Raani, this fragrance finishes with a base note of a deeply opulent Sandalwood.
  • Intense Solid Perfumes: Made using the time-taking, artisanal method of Enfleurage, our Intense Solid Perfumes — Sunehre Din and Chandani Raatein — come in the form of a balm that has been infused with the ultra-nourishing butter of Mango and Mahua. These balms take months in the making and are travel-friendly, given their compact and coin-sized form.

What is the safest perfume?

Chemically produced alcohol used in synthetic perfumes are harsher on the skin as compared to perfumes that are infused with natural ingredients. Even though they’re falsely advertised to be stronger in nature, alcohol-based fragrances tend to have a higher evaporation rate as compared to oil-infused perfumes.

At Forest Essentials, a traditional Ayurvedic process known as Sandhaan Kalpana or Biomedical Fermentation is used as a method to obtain the active extracts of plants, while keeping these aqueous as well as alcohol soluble. The Pure Grain is obtained from natural grains including Rice, Bajra, Jowar and Wheat. The right proportion of grains, the precise duration and the exact temperature ensure that the Alcohol produced is of optimal level, doesn’t cause any irritation on the skin and doesn’t evaporate slowly. This process is used for the Pure Grain Alcohol used in our perfumed mists. All Vedic texts also recommend using earthen and wooden containers for the fermentation process.

We have also used the ancient Ayurvedic techniques of Asav and Aristha to produce Pure Grain Alcohol that formulates the base for our perfumes. These preparations are prepared by soaking the raw ingredients, in a solution of jaggery along with a fermenter for a specified period of time, during which it undergoes fermentation to produce alcohol.

All of our fragrances have also been created using the finest ingredients, sourced from different parts of India and captured at the height of potency. They are then steam-distilled for their pure essential oils.

Hence, the safest perfumes are those which are made with natural essential oils as their base, since they provide a long lasting and accurate fragrance along with nourishing the skin.

How to choose a perfume as per skin type?

Choosing a perfume and a fragrance depends on your personal choice and what suits best for your senses and skin. However, what suits your skin the most is fully dependent on various factors like body heat, oils, chemistry or even the bacteria on your skin. Even though choosing a perfume is not as intensive as choosing the right skincare products, you might have to factor in sensitivity and skin type. It is scientifically known that the oilier your skin, the lesser perfume you need for it to be impactful.

Perfumes last longer on oily skin types with the strength of the scent being more intense. The reason behind this is simply because the oils trigger a stronger reaction between the compounds and composition of the fragrance and your skin.

For people with a dry skin type, stronger and heavier scents are more suitable to stretch the potency and strength of the scent for it to linger on for a longer time.
