Expert Recommendations to Travel with Ease

Published on:

From interacting with people of different backgrounds, exploring different landscapes and their history, to pampering your palates with the taste of unique foods, travel is a necessary experience for the mind to mature and for wellness to ensue.

Ayurveda suggests that our soul will not mature to learn the necessary lessons of life, if we choose to remain isolated from the world outside. Modern science too reveals that travelling stimulates neurogenesis – or cell growth inside the brain, as one is exposed to novel and complex environments.

Today, within hours we can find ourselves in different countries, climates, and time zones and while it is overall essential for our wellness to travel, special care must be taken to ensure our body and skin become seamlessly conditioned to the new, unusual environments of our destinations.

For instance, the Vata Dosha is responsible for movement of our body and hence it tends to get aggravated during travel. This may lead to irregular digestion, feelings of anxiety and increased dryness of the skin.

ayurvedic herbs

Following through, here are a few tips from Ayurveda to help ease your travel:

– Carry jars filled with cloves and cardamom – which can be used as instant mouth fresheners, and some Ajwain and Neem to treat nausea or indigestion- common during travel.

– Add Peppermint leaves or Fennel seeds to your Tea for a cooling and refreshing effect.

– Try this travel friendly herbal decoction recipe that will soothe you from within:

Ingredients –

1. Powdered fennel seeds – 5gms

2. Coriander powder – 5gms

3. Carom seeds powder –5gms

4. Cumin seeds powder—5gms

5. Candy sugar —2.5gms

Mix all these powders and store to carry in an air tight jar. Take ½ a tsp after meals to ease digestion.

How to Take Care of Your Skin & Mood When You Travel?

body massage oils

Just as you plan your trip’s itinerary with things to see, eat and do, plan your schedule to fit a full body oil massage or Abhyanga before you travel. It is recommended to massage the skin using a naturally cooling and soothing cold pressed oil, such as the Chandan & Camphor Body Massage Oil, which is the best massage oil to provide ample hydration to the skin, owing to its base of pure Cow’s Ghee, and also to calm and unwind, with its blend of Sandalwood & Camphor essential oils, before you embark on your travel.

Whether you are travelling by flight, train, or road, it is often hard to get some good sleep during your journey. Carry the Forest Essentials Tranquil Sleep with you, to spray onto your pillow or the nape of your neck. This contains the pure essential oils of Lavender and Sandalwood, among others, which dispel stress and anxiety to induce deep sleep during long hours of tiring travel.

Finally, a fresh flower infused Body Mist makes for a great refreshment to scent and hydrate the skin whenever required. Try the new additions to our collection of Body Mists – the fresh yet sensuous fragrance of Parijat or the warm & refreshing fragrance of Honey & Vanilla.
