Reasons For Hair Loss In Women & How To Treat Them

Published on:

Hair loss has become a common concern in the modern era. While falling of 70-80 strands a day is believed to be normal, the problem arises when this number increases and the hair regrowth drastically drops. Blame it on the convenient yet stressful modern lifestyles, unhealthy sleep schedules, eating habits, and increasing environmental pollution. Just as much as all of these factors contribute to our overall health and skin, they also contribute to our hair health. However, another major concern for hair thinning or hair loss in women is often related to hormonal imbalances in the body, which could occur at any given age and stage of life and even more so when women are experiencing menopause.

Most Common Hair Loss Reasons & Their Remedies

With a plethora of reasons that could lead to hair fall in women, our Ayurveda Doctors have shared their expertise on the best ways to treat hair fall.

Dosha Imbalance

According to Ayurveda, beautiful, lustrous hair is a sign of a healthy and balanced lifestyle. While a healthy lifestyle is achieved through a number of external factors including proper diet and sleep, these factors are in turn maintained by balanced Doshas, which promote better functioning of our internal system. In our body, the Vata dosha is responsible for movement and transportation of food nutrients through the empty channels and spaces of the body. Excessive or imbalanced Vata dosha can eventually hamper the flow of essential nutrients from the food to the hair cells, and due to lack of nourishment, the scalp then experiences excessive dryness, flakiness, and the hair tends to become thin and fall more often. Hence, it is important to balance the aggravated Vata dosha with a few simple changes in your diet and lifestyle.

  • Incorporate fresh coconut, almonds, pumpkin seeds, and walnuts in your diet as these are considered as excellent “hair food.”
  • Opt for whole grains and leafy greens such as kale, mustard greens, and arugula as they are the best dietary items for hair growth.
  • Maintain a proper schedule and remember to exercise daily or practice yoga asanas and breathing exercises (Pranayama) to relieve mental and physical stress.

Exposure To Chemical Hair Products

Another common factor of hair loss in women is the excessive use of external heat through styling products and chemical treatments which claim to smoothen and soften hair. The use of chemical treatments for hair might look flattering but in the long run, these adversely affect the quality and strength of the hair. As these chemical treatments involve a myriad of hair care products which are more often than not, full of Sulphates and Parabens. This when combined with pollution, only worsens the hair leaving it frizzy and damaged. While you may continue to indulge yourself in hair styling products and tools, it is essential to switch to natural hair care products to provide hair intense nourishment and much needed care.

To treat damaged and unhealthy hair, one must incorporate Sulphate free hair cleanser and conditioners which are gentle on the hair as well as the roots. We recommend using the Hair Cleanser Japapatti & Brahmi along with Hair Conditioner Japapatti & Brahmi by Forest Essentials, which are ideal for chemically treated hair. These are rich in potent infusions of Hibiscus (Japapatti) leaves, Brahmi, and Nagarmotha extracts, which rejuvenate the scalp, strengthen the hair follicles and restore the hair’s lustre and vitality. Opt for a weekly head massage followed by a hair masque to deeply condition dehydrated hair. We suggest using the Forest Essentials Intensive Hair Repair Masque Japapatti & Brahmi which has a rich creamy base of potassium rich, fresh Banana pulp infused with the extracts of Methi seeds, Shikakai, Hibiscus (Japapatti) leaves and Brahmi, for intense hydration. This pre -shampoo masque nourishes the hair from deep within to repair and protect it from the harsh chemicals. It leaves the hair lush and healthy looking.

Unhealthy Diet

As Ayurveda advocates a holistic approach to healthy living and beauty, it is important to intake a healthy diet rich in proteins, Omega 3, antioxidants, and natural vitamins and minerals. Some natural haircare remedies from your kitchen include the ingredients Amla, and Curcumin, in the form of Turmeric. Amla is rich in Vitamin C and has a plethora of medicinal properties including the ability to treat dandruff! A powerhouse of antioxidants, Turmeric has the ability to regulate sebum production in the skin, hence, leading to the production of natural oil content to the hair follicles and contributing to healthy hair growth.  Also, since our hair is made up of protein, it needs to be replenished and ‘refuelled’ regularly. Ensure to include a palm sized portion of protein in your meals during breakfast and lunch.

Stress

In today’s time and age, stress has become a part and parcel of our daily routines, knowingly or unknowingly! Thus, it is important to pause, relax and unwind to de-stress the mind as it also denotes a healthy mechanism. Indulge yourself in a nourishing head massage with the Forest Essentials Ayurvedic Herb Enriched Head Massage Oil Japapatti as it not only relaxes the tense nerves but it also conditions the hair follicles to promote healthy hair growth and rejuvenate the scalp. Due to the lack of natural hair oil content in the hair follicles, we experience hair thinning, hair fall and in extreme cases, baldness – all of these are equivalent to visible signs of scalp aging.  Well this is not it, we also recommend using the Forest Essentials Stress Relief Spray which is formulated with steam distilled, essential oils of Lavender and Lime. With its refreshing fragrance, it has a calming and soothing effect on the senses, which helps to relax the mind. Spray on your pulse points or on your pillow before you go to bed.

Remember to follow a holistic diet, lifestyle along with natural hair care routines to maintain your lustrous hair!
