What is Kampani Kalam?

During 18th and 19th century India, the East India Company wanted India’s vivid culture to be showcased in pieces that they could take home, but through a medium that resonated with them. This led to the beginning of the Kampani Kalam style of painting, also known as Company Style. These paintings recorded landscapes, views of nature, monuments, Indian culture and dance forms long before the invention of the camera, and were a magnificent record of a time when artists in India were open to different styles and techniques from Europe.
