A Fragrance Marvel

The solid perfume is perhaps the oldest known form of perfume, created at a time when our ancestors would extract the scents of aromatic plants, herbs and flowers to make fragrant ointments, dense pomades and balsams. These would be applied onto skin and hair, or burned as resin for sacred rituals.

Forest Essentials revives the ancient art of perfumery with its Blend No. 10 Solid Perfume, a limited edition scent that celebrates ten years in India of the world’s most iconic magazine – Vogue.

It was only something special and rare that could be created to commemorate a journey as iconic as that of Vogue India, and so, at the heart of Blend No. 10 lies the Indian “flower of desire”, the Madhumalti.

The most effective way to capture the precious essence of the delicate flowers was through the ancient technique of Enfleurage. The fresh flowers are plucked at night, when their scent is most potent, and placed on a film of sweet Mango and Mahua butters, spread upon a glass chassis.

The selection of Mahua and Mango is unusual, and the combination of their distinctive fragrances gives depth to the voluptuous Madhumalti.

After three or four days, the flower’s fragrance infuses the butters, with its intoxicating, powdery scent, and then it is changed to another lot of fresh flowers. This is done at intervals for over a month, after which the scent is completely drenched in the creamy base.

When applied to the wrists, the floral essence lingers at length, making each moment special, as the scent expresses itself differently throughout the day.
