Our History

Forest Essentials was founded in the year 2000 after years of meticulous research by Mira Kulkarni. After many years of development with trained Ayurvedic physicians, a range of natural skin care and hair care products was evolved. The view that Ayurveda advocates is that a holistic approach is necessary for beauty care. When there is a balance of energy, which includes high nutrient levels not only for the body but also emotions and perceptions that constitute our mental diet, as well as pure natural treatments for skin and hair, we actually can perceive this non- changing value of physical perfection- or absolute beauty.
Since 2000, Forest Essentials has changed the course of beauty, Building on the cultural foundations of the past and utilizing the evolving research and technology of the present, Forest Essentials creates the future traditions of beauty.
Forest Essentials believes that every product must be as enjoyable as it is effective. Innovative formulas advance the performance of familiar and exotic ingredients. Sensuous textures and scents make for a unique gratifying multi-sensory experience.
Recreating the traditions of the past has always been a passion for Mira Kulkarni, Founder of Forest Essentials. Her first foray was to try and manufacture hand made soaps, made from oils, which were processed using the cold pressed method, which left the rich nutrients in the oil intact. This age old process was virtually not being used in the present day, so she had to procure “kolhu’s or old fashioned grinders where oil is extracted by hand. To this she added steam distilled pure essential oils for fragrance, herbal infusions, and organic whole fruits and vegetables. These soaps were made by hand, using traditional Indian recipes. These sold faster than they could be produced, showing there was an intense need for these kinds of products. This actually was the start of Forest Essentials.
There is no ‘quick fix’ method for eternal youth. Only naturally distilled pure essential oils, pure cold pressed, organically grown vegetable oils and plant extracts should be used in skin applications. Plants, unlike chemicals or any of their parts or extracts is full of that vibratory energy that constitutes life. By plants we mean all forms of vegetation including trees, flowers, fruit, vegetables, herbs and spices. These living substances contain all the purifying nutritive and balancing properties required to be the perfect anti aging food for the skin.
Forest Essentials uses this philosophy to produce our line of treatments for hair care and skin care. We use age-old Ayurvedic formulations from ancient Ayurvedic Ashrams in Tehri Garhwal, with scholars who practice an austere code and devotion to their incredible font of knowledge. They supply us with many of our herb ingredients, oil formulas, and Vedic treatments. This is then interspersed with the understanding of a modern biochemist’s point of view to create, with our team, products that have their basis in India’s oldest science but presented in an easy-to-use manner.
Typically, an Ayurvedic treatment would be highly beneficial, but not pleasantly scented and messy to use. By keeping its benefits intact, yet making it possible for the discerning woman of today, to integrate this well-being into her everyday life, is the special focus of Forest Essentials.

Our People

Mrs. Mira Kulkarni – Director

Mrs. Mira Kulkarni graduated in Fine Arts from Stella Maris College, Chennai after completing her schooling from Loretto Tara Hall, Shimla. She educated herself in various fine arts including painting in watercolors, journalism, organic plants and herbal culture. Her creations in natural products for skin and hair care is a passion since childhood, always using hand ground herbal powders or ubtans for cleansing and so on.
The south was an amazing learning experience for her because it was the norm to use freshly made products for skin and hair using old recipes. She used this to source local herbs from tehri garwal, oils and medicinal roots, which were then made in Ashrams according to ancient Ayurvedic recipes. She realized a gap in the market for user-friendly Ayurvedic products in relation to the traditional Ayurvedic products available, which were too strongly scented and though very effective, not very pleasant to use.
Mrs. Mira Kulkarni worked for many years with vaids and modern biochemists to produce a range, which while keeping the inherent properties of Ayurveda intact are wonderfully scented and pleasurable to use. Thus the range of Forest Essentials was born. The products range from handmade soaps made with pure essential oils and natural spring water to sensual body oils which are not only delightful to use but actually work to firm and tone the face and body.
